The Poetry Center Book Award The Poetry Center Book Award has been presented annually since by The Poetry Center, San Francisco State University, to a single outstanding book of poetry published in the previous year. The award carries a cash prize and an invitation to read, along with the award judge, at The Poetry Center in San Francisco. Our third-prize winner, Dr. Alan Farrell, is the first poet to place in the top three in both our War Poetry Contest and our Wergle Flomp Humor Poetry Contest (first prize in for the parody "Blaming of Parts"). He has a matchless ability to capture the patois and perspective of the ordinary soldier. Bellingham Review ’s Tobias Wolff Award for Fiction, 49th Parallel Award for Poetry, and Annie Dillard Award for Nonfiction are awarded to a short story, a poem, and an essay each year.
